March: All About Garden EventsPosted on 03/01/2010
For almost 3 years, I have been meaning to add an events calendar to the site. Well, what was I thinking by waiting so long. In the first 10 days, there were over 100 events added to the calendar. In fact, it was growing faster than my ability to implement features to manage it! Garden Events from Public GardensThe Public Gardens Calendar pulls events from public gardens around the country. Our list of participating gardens is growing rather quickly, so I'm looking forward to see how this project develops. Events are published across the Landscapedia network (.info, .org, mobile, tours) as well as a growing list of websites/blogs and of course it's available on My Yahoo! and iGoogle. My CalendarNow, here's my favorite part. If you see an event you like, you can go to the events detail page by clicking on the link to the event. At the bottom of the page, you can see other Landscapedians attending. You can also let others know you are attending which will also add it to your Profile page for you to keep track of. Event Reminders to your EmailIf you saw the account notice I published, your preferences have changed. You can now elect to receive event reminders by email 24 hours in advance. The default preference for everyone is set to "No" so don't forget to review your settings if you want to get a friendly reminder. So go ahead and let us know what events you are attending, and we'll remind you in advance. RSS, My Yahoo! and iGoogle (and more)As I mentioned, you can also add events (even local events) to your favorite web portal. Use the filter on the Public Garden Events page to select your location. Then use the handy icons in the top-right corner to add it to your favorite website. Free Events for Your BlogOne of the cool things is that I'll help you put a feed of all events or just your local events on your blog or website. Instead of duplicating all the hard work of keeping up with events, ride on our shirttails and get it for free without doing any work. Contact me and I'll give you a hand. Also, if you want to see what other content is available for your website or blog, look at our links page. Featured Garden DesignerThe featured designer this month is Chad Roberts (Exteriors by Chad Roberts) of Phoenix, AZ. Chad's work is really amazing so check out his design portfolio.
