Welcome to LandscapediaPosted on 10/13/2008
Site Founder :: Michael Franklin Welcome to Landscapedia! I built Landscapedia way back in 2006 because as a part-time landscape designer, I didn't have the money to buy the more expensive software to create my project reports. Since then, the site has evolved into a community for designers to share their portfolios and plant knowledge. One of the most common questions I get is “What exactly is Landscapedia?” The formal (boring) answer is that it is an interactive community of landscape designers and garden design enthusiasts where members research plants, display projects and discuss current design topics. The informal answer is that it's a place to share and discover plants and landscape design. Collaborative Plant ReferenceThink of it as Wikipedia for landscape design, except our database has over 40 searchable design criteria for over 35,000 plants. We volunteer our knowledge to public botanical gardens and arboretums as part of our community service initiative. Read the tutorials for Adding/Editing Plants.
Design ShowcaseTo get your work online you can either buy, create and maintain your own branded website or you can post online here for free . . . or even better, both. Posting your portfolio online gives you access to over 10,000 visitors a month. This gives you even more exposure than your website alone. There are other portfolio communities, but we are the only one show off your softscape lists. Adding a softscape to your project adds a new level of detail to show potential clients your full vision. We select one member portfolio each month to be our Featured Designer. You can’t be featured if your portfolio isn't posted! Mobile Garden Design CommunityWe offer both an app in iTunes for the iPhone and a mobile web version. Consistently ranked in the top 10 iPhone Utilities by Apple, Landscapedia Mobile is THE on-the-go community for the designers. Not only can you look up plants while at garden centers and public gardens, you can bookmark them or add them to your design projects. From your phone, you can participate in the forums or send a message to a friend. We are the only garden and landscape community accepted by Apple into the iPhone Web Apps program. Social Network for Plant EnthusiastsLandscapedia lets you interact with other designers and plant enthusiasts though the forums and communities. With so many ways to meet others, it is one of the most diverse landscape communities on the internet. The Communities let you connect with other people who belong to the same organizations or are fans of the same retailer or public gardens. Plus, you get to participate in a private forum just for other members of your group. Read more on the Communities.
Syndicated Plant InformationBecause of all the plant information donated to Landscapedia by members, we are able to give it back to the community in the form of free syndicated content. Bloggers and website owners can paste the code directly to their sites to include more than just a plant picture. If you have a website you think competes with us, we don't care. We'll let you use the code too. We'll even help you customize it so it works better on your site. Grab the code on the Links page or visit our Landscapedia Blog to see it in action.
