0 Plant(s), 9 Image(s) This Modern/Asian inspired designe focuses on mass plantings playing off large boulder outcropings. A Koi pond and rock garden provide a focal point for the back yard, while a kitchen/butterfly garden adds interest to a small side yard. A deer chaser, traditional water basin and Guide stones add an Asian flare to the Garden. This project was designed in 2007 and installed in by LCG Landscape.

0 Plant(s), 10 Image(s) The driving force for the back yard was a new outdoor kitchen, more sitting areas, possible water feature/garden art location, hot tub and PRIVACY.
The residence HAD great views of the Boise foothills until a new home went in and now their focal point is their neighbor’s roof. We designed four concepts to take advantage of the open views, screen the neighbors’ roof, give the clients a sense of enclosure and play off the strong lines of the house.
After presenting the plans and SketchUp models a final concept was designed.
This project was installed by LCG in 2011.
the main elements are, a multi-level deck/patio, outdoor kitchen with wood burning pizza oven, and an enclosed courtyard with moongate, spa and workout area. A screen fence will separate the spa and workout areas of the courtyard and will add an area for a TV/audio, towel hooks and storage.
The Main Subs were Pristine Pools & Spa and Boon LLC.

0 Plant(s), 28 Image(s) The main driving force behind this Boise remodel was the need for more entertaining area. The home owner, who is an Architect at a local firm, contacted us for the redesign. The main elements for the design were an outdoor kitchen area, outdoor dining area, possible water feature and some lush plantings. We came up with 4 concept plans and worked with the home owner to combine the four concepts into the final design. This project was design by us and installed by Sterling Landscape in 2011.

42 Plant(s), 24 Image(s) This extensive landscape remodel demolished the ‘builder special’ patio and installed a multi level outdoor entertainment area. A stamped concrete patio was designed with a small sunken area to accommodate the spillway water feature and for an area for a small outdoor fire pit. A built in grill was added to the upper area. Native Table Rock Sandstone wall builders were saw cut and hand chiseled to form the walls.
Large Arizona flagstone stepping stones were added as a path between the front and back yards. Extensive planting were also added.
This project was installed by Franz Witte Landscape in 2004.
UPDATE :
THE LANDSCAPE CHANGES OVER TIME........
When a landscape design is initially installed, is is sometimes hard for the homeowner to envision how it will drastically change over time. Trees and shrubs will grow, stone and other hardscape items will weather and new shade patterns will be introduced by the larger trees.
Initially the stone was bright, but over time it weathered, and the plants started to soften the stone.
This project was installed by Franz Witte Landscape in 2004 with the shade structured being phased in 2005.
The following pictures were taken right after the installation in 2004 and in 2011 to show how the landscape has matured.

0 Plant(s), 14 Image(s) The main goal of this project was to transform a unused back yard into a memorial area and strolling garden for a “no kill” cat shelter called Simply Cats, in Boise, Idaho.
We came up with four different concepts then we developed a final concept off the “Cat Head” Plaza design and the Poem “the Rainbow Bridge”. The main Plaza is in the shape of a cat’s head, with the nose being a raised planter and seat wall and the two ears being free standing seat walls. A boulder outcrop waterfall and stream divided the memorial area into two different rooms. The first room being the main gathering area-”Cat Head” plaza and the second room being an informal pea gravel path that leads people to the memorial wall. Engraved “cat paws” are located in the pavers and takes people thru the plaza, to the waterfall and then to the upright sandstone column that has the Poem “The Rainbow Bridge” engraved on it. This project was designed in 2008. We provided conceptual plans, 3D SketchUp models, Rendering for marketing/fundraising, grading plan, planting plan, hardscape plan, details, bidding and negotiations and construction oversight. The first phase of this project was installed in 2009 by Sterling Landscape.

0 Plant(s), 41 Image(s) The main goal of this project was to transform a steep grass hillside into multiple usable rooms. After four concept designs were presented a final design was agreed upon. The focal point of the yard would be a multiple terrace waterfall. Stone slab steps and New England flagstone would provide access between the existing upper patio, new garden bed area and lower paver patio. Upright Basalt columns added structure and texture to path and waterfall. A variety of perennials were planted to provide year round color. This project was designed in 2009. We provided conceptual plans, 3D SketchUp models, grading plan, erosion and sediment control plan, planting plan, hardscape plan, details, bidding and negotiations and construction oversight. The project was installed in the spring of 2010 by Sterling Landscape and After Dark Lighting.

0 Plant(s), 12 Image(s) The main goal for this project was to develop a comfortable sitting/eating area plaza for a retail complex. We worked closely with the architect and designed courtyard walls that enclosed the sitting areas and played off the arched lines of the upper windows. The courtyard walls and raised planters were finished in brick and stone to match the building. Matching lights were also added to the pillars to make the Architecture and landscape flow together. This project was designed and installed in 2007

52 Plant(s), 30 Image(s) The driving force behind this project was to develop large outdoor entertainment areas that had multiple levels, an outdoor kitchen that was closely situated to the residence and small pool, a fire pit, a small koi pond with a large stream and provide a sense of privacy but not screen the views of the Golf Course and the Foothills.
Raised Sandstone edging was used to add an old world flare while Basalite Pavers were used for all patio areas and to accent the driveway.
This project was installed in 2008 by Summer Lawns. The Pool and the residence was designed by BRS Architects.
| | Meridian, ID
0 Plant(s), 17 Image(s) The driving force behind this remodel was the fact that you could not see the front of the house due to the overgrown landscaping. The home owner wanted an area in the front yard to watch the kids play and to also open up the views to the front of the house. A small entry patio was designed with a small seatwall to give the patio a sense of enclosure. A new entry walk was also designed so guests did not have to walk up the driveway to get to the front door.
In the black yard the clients wanted to expand their patio and have an area for the kids and dogs to play. A new paver patio was designed to expand the living area and a disappearing waterfall added the sound of water to the back yard. A sand box and play area were designed for the kids and a large lawn area for the dogs was provided.
This project was designed in 2009 and installed by Sterling Landscape in 2010

0 Plant(s), 30 Image(s) This long term master plan features sandstone slab steps and a paver entry walk. A courtyard was desinged with Eldorado Stone and iron accents. Basalite Italian Renaissance pavers were used as the paving for the entry walk and the back patio.
In the back yard a large cover patio set the back drop for an outdoor TV with a Sunken Cal Spa Hot tub and outdoor kitchen. A timber shade structure and outdoor fire place were designed to be phased in at a later date. Lush plantings were used to screen the neighbors but were placed to keep the views of Table Rock open.
This project was designed in 2008 and installed by Sterling Landscape.

0 Plant(s), 20 Image(s) The main goal of this residence was to provide an old world feeling to this classically designed, Italian inspired residence. We designed a long term master plan that included an outdoor kitchen, shade structure, outdoor fireplace, formal Koi pond, Knott garden, living trellis and lush plantings.
The first phase included the entry courtyard and step (we designed the paving and steps, the wall and iron work were designed by others) annual color pots, patio, irrigation, lawn and some plantings. The home owner is planning on phasing the project on her own over the years. This is the second residence we designed for this client.
This project was design in 2008/09 and the hardscape was installed by Sterling Landscape and the softscape by the home owner in 2010. Time will add character to the project as the plants mature and more elements are phased in.
| | Meridian, ID
0 Plant(s), 9 Image(s) This long term master plan featured circular entry drive, stone landscape walls, lower patio area, disappearing waterfall, stone slab steps, outdoor fireplace… and lush plantings. The home owners are avid gardeners and want to do the majority of the plantings. We designed a plan that could be phased in over time.
The first phase was the entry drive, walks, covered patio, earthwork, irrigation system, cultured stone walls, boulders walls, lower patio, stone slab steps, key trees, sod, bark and a disappearing waterfall and stream.
The second phase will be expanding the lower patio area, outdoor fire place and lush plantings. This project was designed in 2008 and installed by Green Lawn Care and landscape, inc. in 2010.

0 Plant(s), 35 Image(s) The main goals behind this extensive remodel was to enhance the overall esthetics, expand the outdoor entertain areas, add shade to the hot back yard and a safe stairway from the upper deck to the lower levels.
The existing deck was redone in Trex while a new stair way with landing was designed and installed. The railing was changed from wood to wrought iron to match the perimeter fence. Abbotsford pavers were used for the main patios, while CMU walls were finished with cultured stone to match the residence.
Natural stone slab steps and a curving path now act as the main gateway between the Back and Entry patios.
This project was installed in 2009 by Sterling Landscape and Boon LLC. The Landscape Lighting was installed by AfterDark Lighting.

0 Plant(s), 16 Image(s) This Estate was designed in 2004. We worked closely with the client to layout the entry drive & walk, planter beds, pool and a native meadow area with a locust grove, walking path and a meandering stream. Grassy berms added character to the large lawn areas and extensive plantings were designed to add a lush understory to the many trees that were added. A large amount of hedging was designed to add a formal touch to the yard. This project was installed in two distinctive phases.
Phase one consisted of earth work (berms), irrigation, grass and trees. The first phase was installed by Hillside landscape.
Phase two consisted of the pool area and the surrounding plantings. This area was installed by Franz Witte landscape and additional elements were designed and installed (on site adjustments) by the Franz Witte Landscape.
The home owner is currently working on phasing in the understory plantings.

0 Plant(s), 23 Image(s) The existing landscape was a builder special – the patio was too small and uninviting and the simple planting beds were uninspiring. My clients wanted to enhance the areas without taking away from the great surrounding views. The main goals were shade, larger sitting areas and year round color.
An Alumawood shade structure was designed to add shade to a multilevel outdoor room. The upper level was TimberTech deck (Earthwood Plank in Teak) and the lower level was Pavers (Basalite’s Italian Renaissance). A vertical see thru screen fence was designed to add privacy, but not to screen any views.
A small flagstone sitting areas was designed with natural stone slab benches. A flagstone access path was also installed.
A mix of trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals and bulbs were designed to give the client year round interst.
This project was installed in 2009 by Sterling Landscape and Boon LLC.
In 2010 we designed the front yard to incorporate a large entry patio to read the morning newspaper or to just say hi to passing neighbors. A new Arizona flagstone path connected the new Basalite raised paver patio to the side yard gate. This path connects to the path that was installed last years back yard remodel. The concrete driveway was removed and Basalite pavers were installed to try and soften the ‘runway’ look of the plain concrete drive. The Front yard was installed by Sterling landscape and Boon LLC in 2010.

58 Plant(s), 19 Image(s) This small backyard remodel wanted to transfer a large, hot grass filled areas into a interesting area that flows into different rooms. A shade structure was added to the patio and large boulders were brought in. A large variety of perennial and ornamental grasses were used for color and contrast. This project was installed in 2008 by Far West Landscape.
In 2010 the home owner stained the concrete patios to soften the appearance of the grey concrete. The plants have also started to fill in quite nicely.

0 Plant(s), 14 Image(s) Main goal of this project was to design a backyard oasis with less lawn. A multi level adult entertainment area was designed with a sunken patio, free standing fountain, sitting areas, seat walls, gazebo with back and yellow grove bamboo screen and lush plantings. This project was designed back in 2006. The home owner has phased the project in overtime with only the gazebo and upper paver patio needing to be installed (as well as time for the plants to mature).

0 Plant(s), 14 Image(s) In partnership with Hawkins-Smith Development Company, we were commissioned to design the grounds for the new City hall for the City of Eagle. The City wanted an urban feeling with multiple rooms for different gatherings and functions. We designed a concept with a rose and sculptured garden to the North of the Main entry. An amphitheater was incorporated to the south of the building, just outside the City Council room. The main entry sign was proposed with a curved seatwall and an interactive floating granite sphere water feature, however this part was not included in phase one of construction. A donor stepped up to pay for the installation of the entry sign and water feature, but the donor wanted to go with a more naturalist stream and water fall over the interactive plaza design. This project was installed in 2006 by Eagle Landscape. All Benches and public art were designed by others.

30 Plant(s), 12 Image(s) Old world look and SHADE for the front were the main goals for the clients. An entry courtyard was designed with large River Birch to provide an overhead canopy and to frame the entry. Virginia creeper and English ivy were added to the entry walls to provide that old world feeling. The Iron Gate was designed by others.
Extensive use of pavers were used in this ‘no’ lawn design.
A multi level patio was design in the back yard with a brick paver path connecting the front and back yards.
| | Boise, ID
0 Plant(s), 17 Image(s) The biggest challenge for this back yard remodel was the +20’ drop from the back of the house to the back property line. The client’s main goals were to develop a large usable play area for their kids, develop an outdoor entertainment area for the adults and to keep the landscape design within the modern/contemporary style of the Residence.
After an initial concept plan we approved, we developed construction drawings to deal with the concrete wall design, floating staircase, concrete seatwall, stepping stones and water feature (to be installed in a later phase).
The home owner was very involved in the design process, as well as our team of subs. This was a team effort to turn a hard site into a usable outdoor space with gorgeous views of Downtown Boise.
This project was designed in 2008 and installed by Sterling Landscape in 2009

0 Plant(s), 5 Image(s) Our client had an existing old deck that was falling apart and it was not meeting their needs.
After a concept plan was approved we designed a master plan for the back yard that will be phased in over the years. Phase one consisted of a large multi-level deck (a little over 1300SqFt) made of TimberTech’s Twinfinish composite decking. A large shade structure with maintenance ‘free’ Alumawood and new planting were also added in this first phase. The deck was designed into 3 rooms, the outdoor kitchen area (main level), the dining area (upper level), and an informal sitting/ fire pit area (lower level) that cantilevers over the existing Koi pond.
The second phase will consist of an outdoor kitchen, a second free standing shade structure and flagstone paths.
